Is Social Media A Fad?

Social Media has become a part of fabric of communications for individuals as well as many businesses. It creates an immediate availability to information and individuals from almost anywhere in the world with the growth in smartphone technology. It is interesting that some have such a need with social media that it has adjusted their behaviour. A recent story on the local news had people and doctors addressing depression issues because of the lack of what they perceived as the right levels of interaction through social media venues they used. There is great responsibility that comes with access.

It is clearly the future of where business is going. However, it is more of the new medium in which people find out about businesses.

People will still always do business with those that they know, like and trust. Social Media simply makes it easier for businesses to connect with their prospective customers so they can be "known, liked and trusted" with their customers' business and money.

Social Media is seen as the newest wave of "creative destruction" when it comes to marketing and advertising, as more of our consumers are sceptical on typical advertising and marketing (i.e. Yellow Pages, radio and TV ads) and are more likely to go off of friends' referrals on Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter before deciding to do business with a particular company or venue.

It is something that will always evolve because it is another way to of communication. They are used for many things like finding old friends, meeting new people, and staying in touch with family. Not only is it used for creeping on other people’s lives but as long as there is a platform for people to promote themselves and their businesses, it will be everlasting. Photos are taken, videos are posted, and you are able to see conversations between members. This brings more interest into knowing more about a person’s life without them telling you. As technology gets upgraded so will social media, it will never get old.

So, is social media a fad? With facts like this and the ever-changing fast pace of new changes in the world each day, it can't be.
